Possible Installation Ideas

When looking around the Yacht club, I was really drawn to the coastline surrounding the area because you could see out to the whole of Swansea everywhere that you looked from the yacht club. By looking at the coastline and the landscapes of the beach, it has inspired me in areas of visual research into what sailors would see when out to sea, what they would look out of to view the coastline. I am really interested in taking a design of looking out of a boat porthole to see the whole of Swansea Bay and some how incorporate the Swansea bay within the porthole.

I am debating whether to take the photos in the day or possibly in the night. However if the photographs are at night it will be very difficult to highlight the coastline to the best of it's potential. I was thinking about possibly taking photographs of Swansea Bay in sections, as I believe it will be much more effective than just taking one big landscape photograph of the whole of the Bay like the one above.

I believe that the idea of using a porthole to look out onto the bay will be effective, as not only is the porthole related to the theme of the yacht club, but it could also represent the notion of looking at the world through a lens, as a photographer.

The only disadvantage of creating this form of installation is the cost and time. I would have to space out my time efficiently so that my work does not look rushed.

On Wednesday,  24th October, me and the group will be visiting the yacht club again so that we are able to measure where we would like our installation pieces and also to take any photographs that are needed for it.

If I do create this installation piece I will be placing it in the area opposite the bar by the window. I will most definitely measure the height and width of the window area so that when creating the installation piece it fits perfectly. I will have to think of ways of how to illuminate the photographs of the Bay.  I will have to draw out sketches of my design and see how I am going to put all these elements together.
