On Tuesday 6th November, I went down to the beachfront and decided to do some shooting for my project. Firstly I took photographs of the Boating docks by the Marina as I found that they would go very well with the nautical theme, this is what I came up with when photographing in that area.
I found that the photographs were not that interesting to look at, especially because they all look the same. Even though many of the Yacht Club members would appreciate the view of yachts within my installation , I have to create an installation that will not only include appropriate nautical views but also be interesting to a wide target audience.
So after realising that I did not wish to document the yachts , I wandered further into the beach environment where I realised that I would really like to document the surroundings that the Yacht club members witness when sailing their yachts out to sea. For my installation piece I am using a box that looks like a treasure chest , with 3 peepholes acting as portholes that boats have. So i wanted to use something from the Outside ,such as the beach environment, and bring it into the inside of the box.
As soon as I got to the beach I automatically noticed the seascape and the Mumbles pier in the background, I thought that maybe I could include photographs of the seascape of mumbles pier within the box , captivating the outside world inside. I then realised as I walked closer to the sea water, the textures within the sand and the rippling effect that the water had left, which then also gave me an idea on what the nature of the beach can create throughout the day as the tide always goes in and out at different times of the day.
I am really interested in these photographs that I have taken of the textures and patterns that the beach can create naturally. I will most definitely carry on taking photographs throughout the day and possibly research into weather photography , seascapes and look into how important the weather is to sailors. Overall I found this Shoot very helpful by giving me an idea and what subjects I could focus on.
